NEWS AND HEADLINES
RIP Land Desktop  The big news this week is Autodesk's announcement that, after RIPseveral threats over the years, they are killing the Land Desktop and Civil 3D Land Desktop Companion products. This is big news that Land Desktop users have been dreading to hear. What does it mean? For those who want to stay with Autodesk products and keep current with each new release, it means you'll need to migrate to Civil 3D. For those who do not mind falling a few versions behind, your current Land Desktop software will continue to serve your needs. This announcement may also be the catalyst that jumpstarts your investigation of non-Autodesk software. If so, Carlson Software provides an outstanding alternative in their Carlson Survey, Civil, Hydrology and GIS programs. These can be purchased separately or together in their Civil Suite. You'll find plenty of Carlson information included in this newsletter.

Carlson 2009  In April, Carlson Software released the 2009 version of their Survey, Civil, Hydrology and GIS programs. Celebrating their 25th year with a Users Conference in Lexington, Kentucky, Bruce Carlson announced that Carlson 2009 products will be available on both AutoCAD and IntelliCAD platforms - with more platforms to be announced in the future! See the details below.

Want to see for yourself what Carlson has to offer and how it compares to Land Desktop and Civil 3D? Come to our 3 1/2 hour seminar on June 26th in Garner, North Carolina to see an overview of the Carlson 2009 products for Survey, Civil and Hydrology. You can see details and sign up here.

Only have 5 minutes to spare? Watch one of our 5 minute videos to see a complete subdivision layout or a road network designed and graded using Carlson Survey and Civil products.

Partnerships
Through a new partnership with Raptor Software, Facilities Management (FM), Building Information Modeling (BIM) and GIS users will find new opportunities for service and support. See the details below.

Also, through a new partnership with Carlson Desktop Solutions we will be able to offer an expanded level of service and support for Carlson and Autodesk software. See the details below.

Please drop us a note HERE and let us know what you like or don't like or additional information you'd like to see.

THAT CAD GIRL PARTNERS WITH
   CARLSON DESKTOP SOLUTIONS

We are also pleased to announce another strategic partnership with Carlson Desktop Solutions.  Carlson Desktop Solutions is headed up by Paul Carlson and is a Carlson and Autodesk software dealer, training and support center having multiple offices across the state of Texas.

As with Raptor Software, this does not constitute a merger or joining of two companies but simply provides all parties additional resources to benefit our customers.

I have found that Paul's philosophy toward software sales, training and support closely matches mine: Making sure you are using the software you NEED, not simply what a salesman is able to sell you and focusing on whether or not you LEARN the software, not simply following perfect (and unrealistic) examples typically provided by the software manufacturer.

While our experience with the different survey, civil and construction software packages overlaps in many areas, Paul's team specializes in Carlson's data collection, machine control and stand-alone desktop software packages.

The Knowledge Base on Paul's website is a fantastic resource for AutoCAD and Carlson Software technical documents. Check it out here.

AUTOCAD TIPS OF THE MONTH
PRINT CTB/STB FILES
Follow this handy link to download a utility that makes a printable copy of your CTB and STB files:

HAVING TROUBLE REMEMBERING A COMMAND?
If so, type in the portion of the command that you remember at the command line then press the TAB key repeatedly. One-by-one, the commands that start with your entry will scroll through on the command line.

For instance, if you can't remember the FILEDIA command/variable but you do remember it starts with 'FILE'... typing FILE at the command line and then pressing TAB returns:

   FILEDIA then
   FILEOPEN then
   FILES

Who knows, you might stumble onto a new command you didn't know existed!
